Though alternatives can be hard to find, we value creating a space to enjoy late-night dining, cocktail-sipping, or pastry-indulging in a high energy, yet relaxing environment.
That said, it's wonderful that the editorial staff at Atlanta Journal Constitution feels the same! The AJC has named us one of the city's top seven spots for late-night Atlanta fun, with an emphasis on the exclusion of bars.
By Rose Kennedy, for the AJC --
'Congregate at Cafe Intermezzo for sweets'
Hours vary but Midtown, Dunwoody and Avalon (Alpharetta) are open till at least midnight and 1 a.m. on Fri.-Sat. and Midtown is open till 2 a.m. on Fri.- Sat. There’s an airport location too but it closes at 10 p.m.
The typical late-night sweet craving might involve doughnuts, but this place has such lovely pastries -- and a European coffee house feel.

That said, we're proud to be part of the changing culture in this arena of restaurants.
The site 'CheatSheet.com' published a list of their ultimate recommendations in airports across the country. The fact that we've got multiple locations made us eligible for their rankings, and we're glad to be listed in the second spot!
Here is the excerpt, written by Jess Bolluyt --
"Café Intermezzo isn’t ubiquitous. But it has enough locations — in Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia — that it’s worth mentioning. In fact, the Travel Channel considers it one of the best airport restaurants of all. The publication characterizes the chain as “an oasis in the midst of fast-food junk.” You can order soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and even desserts. The atmosphere makes it feel like a real café, and you can take your food to go if you have a short layover."

We believe that that's why our guests so enjoy pairing coffee and cuisine enjoyment with reading at Café Intermezzo's B Concourse location during spare time before or between flights.
We're delighted to know that the judges of the 2018 Airport Food & Beverage national awards agree!
Thank you, Finavia, The Moodie Davitt Report, and The Foodie Report for selecting us as winners of the category: Airport Food & Beverage Offer of the Year within a Retail/Convenience Store.

While some guests have walked in sharing excited reactions and special memories upon realizing we're now here in Texas (those who've visited the Atlanta locations!), others are familiarizing themselves for the first time with the brand and concept.
It's especially for those curious diners that we enjoyed joining WFAA's Good Morning Texas live from inside the café this past week.
Founder/President Brian Olson and daughter, Grace, hosted reporter Shannon Powell Hart and those watching from home for a morning full of cuisine, pastry, and coffee.

Batdorf & Bronson, originally founded in 1986, prides itself on producing and distributing their product through a genuine interest in the craft, and strong relationships - a reciprocal effort for all parties involved.
“It’s a lot of relationship coffee where we’re dealing directly with the farmers. And by getting involved directly, it’s for the benefit of both of us. Better prices for them, occasional help and assistance financially when needed. And for us, it means better coffee. More special coffee that you can’t just find anywhere.”
That’s Chandler Rentz, java ‘junkie’ and Batdorf’s Director of Training and Development.
He explains how the company treats those delivering the final product with the same care and attention.
“We thrive on those long relationships for many, many years. It’s all about win-win. We want our customers to be thriving and be healthy because it behooves us…it means they’re gonna be in business longer. There are times where things are rough and ‘Oh you need a new piece of equipment? We’ll help you get that piece of equipment.”
A seeming ’symbiosis’ for the sake of great coffee.
And speaking of equipment, Rentz walks us over to the roastery’s unmistakable spectacle, complete with a miniature Elvis caricature spinning amidst a new roast.

“Right now, you can see the beans in that window. They’re turning kind of like a cinnamon color.”
He explains the physical changes the coffee roaster forces upon each bean as they collectively turn into a fully-prepared roast.
Around here, there’s no mistaking the passion and attention to detail.
“When it comes to coffee, any little thing that’s not exactly what we wanted sits with us for a while. It’s all about innovation, always grabbing more information, learning new things…all for the purpose of being able to more consistently produce that excellent cup of coffee or espresso or whatever it’s going to be.”
“That’s what drives everything.“

It's been such a thrill meeting curious Plano and Dallas-area passersby as this location has come to life — from building the structure and perfecting the arched windows, to hanging chandeliers and mounting the gold ‘Café Intermezzo’ letters above the entryway...
Each detail within the process has been executed with thoughtful purpose and intent for our guests’ thorough enjoyment, and interacting with those who will eagerly fill the seats is truly fulfilling.
Teaming with those part of the Shops at Legacy team has been a delight, and we’re excited at the welcome we’ve received within this development's beautiful, inviting community.
We hope you can make it by soon, whether solo, on a date, or with a large group. However and whenever you choose to visit, a taste of nineteenth-century Vienna awaits!

To celebrate all that is rosy, we created a new adult beverage that is refreshing and well-balanced in its sweetness, tang, and strength.
Say hello to the 'Mezzo Rose.'
This gin-based martini is specially engineered for February as it's accompanied by a light, house-made rose syrup. Pomegranate and lemon add a fruity zing, while a touch of St. Germain keeps it crisp.
Finished with a splash of bubbly, this specially-featured drink is simply made for celebration.

"Hadassah Greater Atlanta (www.hadassah.org/atlanta) held its 2017 Centennial Leadership Institute graduation and installed its 2018 officers at Café Intermezzo in Dunwoody on Dec. 10.
Linda Hakerem and Michele Weiner-Merbaum, Hadassah Greater Atlanta’s leadership vice presidents, officiated at the graduation and the installation. They were the 2017 facilitators for CLI, which is designed to bring knowledge, leadership skills and passion to Hadassah."

Sheila Dalmat, who was installed as the Atlanta president for a second term, explained why each attendee was given a rose: “Roses are beautiful, fragrant and remind us of celebrations of life and love. Roses also have thorns, need care (pruning/cutting) and feeding (water and food) to achieve their full beauty. Let’s always nurture our souls and care for our needs and the needs of others so that we can celebrate with full, beautiful roses.”Original Post: http://atlantajewishtimes.timesofisrael.com/hadassah-greater-atlanta-welcomes-new-leaders/

Espresso Machine In-The-Making!

Friendships can mean the world, in life and in business. And as we finish the building of our newest location in the Dallas/Plano area, we’re thrilled to have one of our longtime friends working behind-the-scenes on a piece so special to what Intermezzo provides.
Jesse Orozco, owner of Orozco Espresso in Southern California, has known our founder, Brian Olson, since before Café Intermezzo first opened its doors in 1979. Brian and Jesse met while both working for a Los Angeles-based company called American Best Coffee, which imported espresso machines and pasta machines from Italy.
Now, forty years later, Jesse remains ‘the guy’, the craftsman...the artist, for the building of our machines.
“We’re retro-fitting this deluxe paneled system that we did for Café Intermezzo back in 1988,” Jesse explains as he demonstrates the motions of pulling a shot at his shop in Sun Valley, California. “These projects are challenging because of the large structures that we build for them. But it’s a look that Café Intermezzo originated, and it’s integral to the way they put their cafés together.”
In this case, two Italian Victoria Arduino machines are being integrated together to form one, allowing a two-barista team to pull eight shots of espresso in a single moment. This allows for a café full of coffee lovers to be served all the more quickly :)
"Coupled with our long friendship, Jesse represents the true artist, in every sense of the word, who embraces the experience, the expertise, the passion, the love for all things espresso," Brian said.
"He is the master of integrating form and function...truly the only genius I trust to merge caffé express, coffee extraction efficiency, and beauty into 'la machina' which I have named The Café Intermezzo Caffé Fantastique!"
The machine - 'la machina!' - will be specially transported to Plano, Texas in early February. We can’t wait for you to give it a try!

The Building Of Our Newest Espresso Machine

Go behind-the-scenes in the buildout of our newest espresso-producing masterpiece with Jesse Orozco, longtime friend of Café Intermezzo.

Because we believe in that idea fully, we've created a dessert-in-a-glass-style drink that is sure to please the taste buds. We left the task up to one of our trusted bartenders, Justin, and we believe he concocted a scrumptious addition to the beverage book!
Introducing, the 'Tiramisu Martini.'

A rum liquor base delivers a ladyfinger-like taste; a principal element of classic Tiramisu.

Half a shot of espresso gives a rich, coffee flavor without overwhelming the senses.

Accompanying liqueurs make for a full Tiramisu-like taste, while a little bit of cream rounds out the flavors. Topped with a swirl of schlag (whipped cream) and a sprinkle of cocoa...delighting in the 'Tiramisu Martini' is an experience sure to be remembered.
